Fetish Modernity ExhibitionFetish Modernity examined modernity beyond technological progress, foregrounding creative practices across eras and societies. Curated by Anne-Marie Bouttiaux and Anna Seiderer of the Africa Museum and developed in collaboration with Edgar Hoffman, KASCEN, and six European museums, the traveling exhibition combined artifacts, multilingual narratives, and immersive spatial design, enabling audiences to engage with a cohesive interpretation of modernity presented across venues in Belgium and Sweden between 2011 and 2014.
The exhibition brought complex ideas to life, using artifacts and immersive design to make modernity tangible for diverse audiences.
Coordinating multiple museums and curatorial perspectives, we navigated technical challenges while maintaining a seamless visitor experience.
The challenge
The project required harmonizing content from multiple museums and curators across seven languages, venues, and locations. Technical and spatial constraints—including backlit panel calibration and artifact display—required precise integration to maintain narrative clarity and visitor engagement.
Our impact
Over four years, the exhibition traveled to six countries, engaging audiences with a thought-provoking and accessible exploration of modernity. Its cohesive design reinforced the curatorial narrative and culminated in a comprehensive exhibition catalog documenting both its scholarship and modernity themes.
